La actividad urbana puede ser entendida como la interpretación
por parte de unos actores de su papel en un escenario. Esos actores pueden ser
personas, pero también vehículos, árboles u otros elementos. El captar el
espacio en el que se desarrolla la acción, representando así dicho escenario,
es un requisito para aprehender el espíritu del lugar y conseguir un urban
sketch creíble.
En este sentido, una herramienta útil puede ser la
transgresión de la normalmente aceptada norma de tratar con mayor grado de
definición aquéllo que está en primer plano, en contraposición a lo que está
detrás. De esta manera se logra un efecto de profundidad que conforma el
escenario en el que se desenvuelven los actores, resaltando sus formas y
movimientos y reforzando la capacidad narrativa del dibujo.

City life
can be seen as a play where actors develop their roles on a stage. Actors might
be people but also vehicles, trees or other urban elements. Capturing the space
where the action happens, portraying the stage, is a way of adding a strong
sense of place to convey a believable urban sketch.
An useful
tool can be to break the commonly accepted rule of working what is in the
foreground more heavily than what is behind. This way a depth is created in the
drawing that nicely builds a room for the actors to move in, highlighting their
shapes and movement and thus enhancing the storytelling capacity of the image.
Moreover,
what you do not draw is as important as what you do draw! Where do you want to
lead the watcher’s eye?
