twins?

A la caída de una tarde de verano frente al ordenador, nada más gratificante que dar un paseo cuando comienza a refrescar y detenerse a disfrutar de la luz crepuscular frente a un antiguo caserón. Qué estupenda vivienda, me digo. ¿Vivienda? no, viviendas. Son dos casas adosadas y perfectamente simétricas, o casi perfectamente, pues hay un elemento que delata esa circunstancia: el jardín. En un caso, de una fría rigidez, meticulosamente podado y recortado. En el otro, anárquico, rebosante... y colorista a raudales.

De nuevo me he detenido ante elementos opuestos que se complementan. Me lo haré mirar... hace poco me pareció que dos árboles vecinos, muy diferentes entre sí, mantenían una animada conversación, creedme...

Near dusk time, after a whole afternoon in front of the computer, it is a pleasant idea to go out for a walk when the heat fades, and stop for a while to enjoy the sunset lights in front of an old house. What a wonderful dwelling, I think. One dwelling? no! There are two of them, perfectly symmetrical, or nearly, as there is an element that reveals their condition: the garden. In the first case, it shows a cold stiffness, its plants perfectly pruned. In the other, you find anarchy and colourfulness.


Again, I have noticed two opposites that complement each other. I'll have to think about it ... I recently found two neighboring trees, very different from each other, maintained a lively conversation, you have to believe me...

Zaragoza

Un año más ha tenido lugar la cita puntera del cuadernismo nacional. Esta vez, de vuelta con el cuaderno se celebraba en la ciudad de Zaragoza, y el lema del encuentro era arquitectura en cuaderno. Tuve el honor de compartir estrado con conferenciantes -además de amigos- de la talla de Gérard Michel, Lapin, Josu Maroto, Sagar Fornies o Ignacio Mayayo, y, además de impartir una ponencia llamada el vacío y la línea pude exponer algunos de mis cuadernos en el Instituto Aragonés de Arte y Cultura Contemporáneas (IAACC). Desde aquí mi agradecimiento a Clara Marta, promotora del curso, por su iniciativa y su tesón por hacer posible el evento contra viento y marea.

Es, además, un placer volver a Zaragoza, una ciudad que oculta agradables sorpresas como el arrabal de San Pablo, lleno de vida y ordenado en torno al insólito templo del mismo nombre, o tesoros como la seo, la lonja o la iglesia de la Magdalena. Tan sólo hay que saber eludir la tentación de acudir a un edificio tan anodino como la basílica del Pilar. La azotea del IAACC proporcionaba vistas como la que encabeza esta entrada, por lo que era de visita obligada, máxime cuando dispone de un bareto bien animado.

Y, de nuevo, los cuadernos japoneses o de acordeón demuestran su aptitud para recoger secuencias narrativas. Aquí, mis dibujos de estos días pasados.

Once again, the leading event regarding the sketchbook world in Spain has taken place. This time,  de vuelta con el cuaderno was held in the city of Zaragoza, and the theme of the meeting was  arquitectura en cuaderno. I had the honor of sharing the stage with other speakers and friends like Gerard  Gérard Michel, Lapin, Josu Maroto, Sagar Fornies  or Ignacio Mayayo, and besides giving a presentation called  el vacío y la línea  I had the chance to exhibit some of my notebooks in the IAACC. I have to thank Clara Marta, developer of the course, for her initiative and tenacity to make the event possible against all odds.

It is also a pleasure to come back to Zaragoza, a city that contains hidden pleasant surprises as the suburb of San Pablo, full of life and organised around the unusual temple of the same name, or treasures such as seo -old cathedral, the Old Customs or the Church of the Magdalena. You just have to avoid the temptation of going to a building as plain as the Basilica del Pilar. 

The roof of IAACC provided panoramas like the one that heads this post, so it was a must, especially when you have such a well animated bar at the top.

And again, the Japanese or accordion notebooks demonstrate their ability to hold narrative sequences. Here, my drawings of these last days.
